Covenant
Grace Community Bible Church
Adopted January 2004
Having been brought by Divine grace to repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, we rely on His gracious aid as we solemnly and joyfully enter into this covenant with each other and God.
We agree and commit:
- To worship and obey only the one true and living God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Who has revealed Himself to us in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, and to declare His glory to the nations. (Ex. 20:3-6; 1 Chron. 16:8-36; Heb. 1:1-3)
- To the study, teaching, and application of the whole counsel of God found in the Scriptures, believing that it is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness so that we would be adequate, equipped for every good work. (Acts 20:27; 2 Tim. 3 16-17)
- To faithfully pray that God be glorified and His will be done, for the salvation of souls, for the furtherance of the Gospel, for our church and government leaders, for our enemies, and for one another as we bear each others' burdens. (Matt. 5:44, 6:6-13, 28:18-20; John 17:1-4, Gal. 6-2; 1 Thess. 5:17; 1 Tim. 2:1-4; James 5:16)
- To protect the unity of Christ's church by acting and speaking in love toward one another, by refusing to participate in gossip, by bringing any offense directly and privately to one another in love, by maintaining an attitude of humility toward one another, and by obeying its leaders. (Prov. 20:19; Matt. 18:15-17; Eph. 4:29; Phil. 2:1-8, 4:6-7, 1:27; 1Thess. 4:17-18, 5:12-13; 2 Thess. 3:11-12; Heb. 13:17; James 3:1-12, 5:16; 1 Pet. 1:22)
- To regularly participate in the church's worship, discipline, doctrines, and ordinances (which are baptism and the Lord's Supper). (Matt. 18:15-20, 28:19; 1 Cor. 5, 11:23-27; 2 Cor. 2:5-11; Gal. 6:1; Eph. 4:11-16; 2 Thess. 3:6-15; 1 Tim. 5:19-20; Titus 2:1-8, 3:9-11; Heb. 10:23-25)
- To identify and use our spiritual gifts humbly, in love, for the building up of the body of Christ. (Rom. 12; 1 Cor. 12-13; Eph. 4)
- To possess our bodies in holiness as vessels joined to Christ and indwelt by the Holy Spirit and to avoid all unclean thoughts, speech, and actions, as we allow the Holy Spirit to change us and gratefully accept discipline from our Lord. (Rom. 12:1; Eph. 4:29-30; Phil. 4:8-9; 1 Thess. 4:3-7; Heb. 12:5-11)
- To honor and obey, within the bounds of Scripture, all authorities appointed over us, whether in family, church, state, or business; and if we are in a position of authority, to deal reasonably and lovingly with those under our authority, and in so doing to teach them by word and example to fear God and keep His commandments. (Rom. 13:1-7; Eph. 6:5-9; Titus 3:1;1 Pet. 2:13-15)
- To be diligent in our vocations, so that we may provide for our own household, avoid theft of time, money, or goods, and have resources to give to him who has needs. (Ex. 20:15; Prov. 31; Col. 4:5; 1 Thess. 4:11-12; 1 Tim. 5:8; Titus 2:9-10)
- To contribute cheerfully and regularly to the ministry and expenses of the church, to the establishment of new churches, to the relief of the poor, and to the spread of the Gospel throughout all nations. (Matt. 6:3-4, 28:18-20; 2 Cor. 8:1-5, 9:1-15)
- To maintain family and personal devotions, educate our children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, and to seek the salvation of our family and acquaintances. (Deut. 6:4-9, 11:18-22; Josh. 1:8, Prov. 22:6; Matt. 28-18-20; Eph. 6:4)
- To be fully content with our own condition in life, to rejoice in the advancement of our neighbor, and to avoid envying him or coveting anything that is his. (Ex. 20:17; Matt. 22:39; Rom. 8:1-10; Eph. 5:3, 5)
